Our Approach

Our design process leads to unique projects that are born from the particularities of a place and the people who dwell there.

  • Plants are at the heart of our practice, connecting us to time and place.

Plants inform our understanding of climate impacts and inspire awe. Our designs immerse clients in plant life, considering everything from insects and food chains to cultural history and regional traditions.

  • Care and attention to detail is paramount in every aspect of our work.

We strive to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also elegantly simple, safe, thoughtfully assembled, well constructed and welcoming. Interdisciplinary in nature, our projects blend art and design.

  • We reject the notion of a blank slate in designing places.

Our design approach takes a long view, considering the contributions of all who have come before and those who will follow. We delve into research and relationships, guiding our decisions about what to reveal, adapt, and imagine for the future.

  • We approach inclusive design processes as the key to long-term stewardship.

How we do our work is as important to us as the final product. The nature of designing, building and caring for landscapes is inherently interpersonal and interdisciplinary. In addition to partnering with other designers and engineers, we appreciate the lived experiences of communities and clients as expertise, essential to integrate in our design teams. We aim for the landscapes we design and the design process itself to create spaces of belonging.

  • Designing and constructing landscapes requires good communication and good communicators.

Our commitment to clear, open, and curious communication ensures that everyone involved understands their roles, responsibilities, and timelines.

  • We are living in trying times. We celebrate landscapes as places for hope, respite and healing, where we can foster spaces for life to flourish and coexist alongside our concerns and advocacy for a better future.

Our work embraces the transformative power of living among many forms of life.
